DESCRIPTION: APW – Illinois, Bunn Special, 21J, rare HC variant, 16S, gold-filled HC recase with attractive engraving detail, rear shield with idyllic home scene, front shield with initials, white enamel DS Gothic numeral dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, rayed pattern nickel damascene, s#2658676. A rare hunting case watch with a total production of only 200 made in this marking and damascene style, this watch represents the earliest of four different variants of rayed pattern 21 jewel 16 size Bunn Special hunting case mvt, and this style is identified as "Variant A" in Mike Chamelin's excellent Bunn Special book. CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, near mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, some small bits of oxide to regulator spring and larger winding wheel; dial with some scattered hls, two minuscule flakes to rim of seconds-register hole, reverse of dial has been inspected and does have correct original dial feet positions for this Model 8 mvt; fine-plus hands, minute is missing a small bit of its tip; case shows hardly any wear, profuse scratching inside front lid, some marring to lip of rear from opening with a tool, few tiny nicks on pendant, no dents, excellent engraving and engine turning detail, additional setting lever slot has been added; bow pivots semi-freely, crown shows little wear; plastic crystal with some internal circular rub marks caused by hands.
